Two suspects allegedly connected with the gruesome murder of a student nurse, Miss Wendy Achumba, at Umuadara, Umulogho, Obowo local council area of Imo State, have been arrested.

The two suspects, Onyema Okonkwo, a vulcanizer and his colleague, simply identified as Emmanuel, were nabbed, following a swift security sweep by aggrieved youths of the community, headed by Chidiebere Iweajunwa.

A video that went viral, showed Onyema Okonkwo giving a graphic account of how they took turns in raping the girl, before Emmanuel slit her throat with a knife.

Information that reached Vanguard also revealed that the suspects admitted that after the victim recognized them, they attacked her with a stick, inflicting severe injuries to her head before slitting her throat in an attempt to conceal their identities and escape arrest.

On how the suspects carefully executed their plot without anybody hearing the girl’s shouts for help, a villager said: “She was the only one in the house. The owner of the house is based in America.

“There were three student nurses occupying the house, but two went for their nursing experience, leaving only Wendy in the compound.

“All I can add is that the suspects carefully plotted and executed the crime. I thank Umulogho youths for redeeming the image of the community.

“The act is barbaric and condemnable. Those responsible for the young girl’s death, must be made to face the full weight of the law.”
Imo State Police Command was yet to issue a statement on the arrest of the suspects, at press time.
