The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has announced the arrest of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, releasing his mugshots following his apprehension by operatives of the anti-graft agency.
Mamman, who had recently been convicted and sentenced by a Federal High Court in Abuja for financial misappropriation, was picked up in the early hours of Tuesday after weeks of surveillance by the commission.
Photos released by the EFCC showed the former minister in handcuffs and holding a booking board.
He is currently being held in the agency’s custody pending further legal proceedings.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed the arrest at a press conference held at the commission’s Abuja headquarters on Tuesday, disclosing that Mamman was apprehended in Kaduna State alongside two individuals who were allegedly sheltering him.
The property where he was found is also said to be under investigation by the agency.
A Federal High Court in Abuja had the previous week sentenced Mamman to 75 years in prison in absentia after finding him guilty on 12 counts related to money laundering and fraud involving ₦33.8 billion.
The funds in question were linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydropower projects, which fell under the Ministry of Power during his tenure.
Olukoyede described the arrest as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s resolve to fight corruption and recover misappropriated public funds.
He warned that anyone who had dipped into government resources would not escape justice, regardless of where they chose to hide.
He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to pursuing corruption cases involving both public officials and private individuals, pledging that no area would be left untouched in its effort to fulfil its mandate.
