The United States has rolled out new health measures, including airport screening, in response to growing concerns over the spread of Ebola from parts of Africa.
The announcement was made by US health authorities following a rise in cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and surrounding countries.
The measures are aimed at preventing the virus from being brought into the country through international travel.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that travellers arriving from affected regions will now be subjected to additional health checks, and some visa services for people connected to those areas have been temporarily suspended.
In a related development, a US worker based in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for Ebola after being exposed through their work.
The individual, who has shown symptoms, is being transferred to Europe for treatment. Several other people who may have been exposed are also being moved for medical monitoring.
The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a global health emergency, with reports of dozens of deaths and hundreds of suspected cases in the region.
The majority of those affected are adults between their twenties and thirties.
Despite the seriousness of the outbreak, US officials maintained that the risk to people within the United States remains low.
Response teams are being deployed to support tracking and testing efforts in the affected countries, and the US government has also set aside funding to assist nations dealing with the outbreak.
