Afolabi urges FG to revive Eastern ports to ease congestion

Lagos: The Chairman SIFAX Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, has urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate and expand Nigeria’s eastern ports to boost economic activity and ease Lagos port congestion.
He made the call while hosting Dr Akutah Pius Ukeyima, CEO of Nigerian Shippers Council, at SIFAX Group’s Lagos head office on Monday.
The Head of Public Relations Officer of SIFAX, Mr Muyiwa Akande made this known in a statement on Monday after the visit.
Afolabi said years of neglect had hurt eastern ports and reduced Nigeria’s overall port efficiency and trade competitiveness.
“My appeal is simple: extend port modernisation to eastern ports.
“Port activities keep rising yearly, but Lagos ports bear almost all the pressure.” he said.
Responding, the Nigerian Shippers Council boss, Ukeyima, thanked Afolabi for the visit and pledged to look into his request.
