Car Spotter's Stunt Ends in Chaos After Port Harcourt Crash

A car spotting incident on a busy Port Harcourt street took an unfortunate turn after a spotter’s roadside antics were followed by a collision between two vehicles.

Footage that made the rounds on social media showed a man in a bright shirt filming and cheering a black Mercedes-Benz GLK while waving his phone near the vehicle and directing traffic on the road.

Shortly after, the GLK surged forward and struck a stationary white SUV.

The driver of the GLK subsequently stepped out to confront the spotter as onlookers gathered at the scene, with the spotter eventually being dragged away by the crowd.

The spotter later addressed the incident on Instagram, stating that he was simply creating content and had not intended to cause any harm.

He disclosed that he was briefly detained near Iwofe before being rescued.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions, with opinions divided on whether the spotter’s actions distracted the driver or whether the collision pointed to a lack of basic driving competence.

Car spotting has grown in popularity across Nigerian cities, attracting a following among automobile enthusiasts.

However, the hobby has also drawn criticism for the practice of blocking roads and creating conditions that could lead to accidents.
