Abuja Plaza Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Two

Two individuals have been officially confirmed as deceased in the aftermath of a building collapse incident that occurred within the Garki District of Abuja. The collapse involved a two-story plaza situated on Lagos Street, Garki Village, Garki, Abuja, during a heavy rainfall on Wednesday night.

According to earlier reports by PidomNigeria, the structure collapsed amidst the downpour. Dr. Abbas Idris, the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), had disclosed that a total of 37 individuals had been successfully rescued from the scene of the collapsed building.

Subsequently, Nkechi Isa, who serves as the Head of Public Affairs for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provided an update to reporters on Thursday afternoon. Isa confirmed that the unfortunate incident had resulted in the loss of two lives.

She said the 37 persons rescued from the building are currently receiving treatment while bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited in a morgue.

Rescue operations are still ongoing as at press time.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has led a delegation to have an on-the-spot assessment of the building.
