Faruk Lawan regains freedom after serving jail time period

Former Home of Representatives member, Farouk Lawan, has been launched from Kuje Jail after serving a five-year sentence for bribery.

His launch on Tuesday morning was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, Samson Duza.

“Lawan was launched this morning after finishing his jail time period,” Duza instructed our correspondent on Tuesday.

Lawan was convicted in 2021 for accepting a $500,000 bribe from businessman Femi Otedola, Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Fuel Ltd.

The bribe was a part of an try and take away Otedola’s firm from a listing of corporations implicated in a gasoline subsidy fraud.

In January, the Supreme Courtroom upheld Lawan’s five-year jail sentence, dismissing his attraction.
