Company Establishes Artificial Intelligence University in Lagos

Wini Group has secured support from the Lagos State to establish Nigeria’s first university entirely dedicated to artificial intelligence in Epe.

The institution, named Wini University, aims to position Nigeria as a global leader in technological innovation.

The Wini Group said in a recent statement that the university will serve as a hub for technological advancement, equipping Nigerian youth with cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, blockchain and other emerging technologies.

The initiative aims to address unemployment and equip graduates to be competitive and become leaders in the global artificial intelligence market.

The decision to locate the university in Epe has been supported by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose administration is committed to positioning the state as a hub for technology and innovation.

Wini Group Chairman, Olukayode Akano, also endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to attracting global investors and promoting economic transformation as key factors in the development of the project.

The project has received strong support from Epe traditional rulers and community leaders, including the HRM, Oba Rafiu Balogun, Elejirin of Ejinrin. Ancestral land was allocated for the final location of the university in partnership with the Lubajo Egbe and Sawyer Kingdoms.

The organization said the University of Winnipeg will significantly boost the local economy by transforming Epe from an agricultural economy to a thriving digital economy.

The initiative aims to create high-quality jobs for young people across the region and strengthen the Lagos country’s position as an innovation leader in Africa.

The university is inspired by the world’s first university focused on artificial intelligence in Qatar, which attracted scientists and innovators from regions such as the United States, Europe, China and India. The University of Winnipeg aims to replicate this success by attracting top academics and global partners to Nigeria.

“The proposed University of Winnipeg promises to transform Lagos into a thriving ecosystem of technological advancement, attracting global partners, investment and talent. It focuses on practical AI-driven solutions to help students prepare for the future,” Akano said.
