Minister pledges to complete housing projects in 20 states

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has unveiled plans to complete the National Housing Project in 20 states, including the National Capital Region, as part of his commitment to address Nigeria’s housing deficit.

He said the move is in line with the President’s mandate to provide affordable housing for all Nigerians.

In a statement to the press and media, the Director of Public Relations of the Ministry, Salisu Haiba, stressed that an increase in budgetary allocations is needed to achieve these ambitious housing targets.

“Dangiwa also listed the ministry’s priority areas in the 2025 budget, including in the “revival of the Hope Housing Agenda and the completion of national housing projects in over 20 states and the National Capital Region,” the statement said.

In his speech while presenting the 2025 budget to the National Assembly, Dangiwa highlighted the ministry’s key priorities for the year, including the completion of ongoing housing projects, slum rehabilitation and urban renewal programmes across the country.

In his statement, Dangiwa also called on the National Assembly to approve increased funding in seven key areas, which he said was essential to the implementation of transformative housing policies and the plans of the President Bola Tinubu administration, which is focused on economic recovery and growth.

The seven key areas for increased funding outlined by the minister include increased funding for the completion of ongoing housing projects, increased allocations for slum rehabilitation and urban renewal programmes, additional resources for national housing projects, increased funding for initiatives for affordable housing, increased allocations for housing infrastructure development, increased support for housing research and development, and increased funding for the development of housing policies and regulatory frameworks.
