C’River House extends Governor’s leave for two weeks

The Cross River State House of Representatives has granted Governor Bassey Otu an additional two weeks’ leave. This was done in response to a formal request from the Governor.

The decision to extend the leave was unanimous by members of the House during a plenary session on Friday. Deputy Governor Peter Odey will continue to hold office on an interim basis until the Governor returns.

The Speaker of the Cross River House of Representatives, Elvert Ayambem, said the House would remain committed to transparency, good governance and the well-being of all citizens.

He said: “Our decision today is in the best interest of the people of Cross River State. We must support the Governor to re-energize and move the state forward.”

“We must support our Governor in upholding the integrity of local governance. The House will always defend justice and accountability,” the speaker said.

He stressed that the decision taken reflected the priorities of the people and assured that the House would continue to discharge its constitutional duties without fear or favour.
