Edo State Governor urges wealthy Nigerians to emulate NFA Dangote’s conciliatory gesture

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who last weekend launched the distribution of 13,000 bags of rice donated by Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) with the goal of providing assistance to the economically disadvantaged in the state, called on good Nigerians to follow the patriotic example of captain of industry Aliko Dangote and work with all levels of government to eradicate poverty and hunger through investment to create jobs.

The jubilant governor, who made the call in the Edo State capital Benin, expressed his administration’s gratitude to the ADF, saying the move was in line with his administration’s policy of making life better for all through sound economic policies and proactive provision of infrastructure in the state.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Aliko Dangote Foundation for this generous and loving gesture. The donation reflects Foundation’s commitment to eradicating poverty, promoting food security and supporting the most vulnerable in the society,” he said.

“I understand that the plan is to distribute one million bags of rice to all 774 local government areas in the country. This move is a commendable sign.” The Edo State Government has adopted President Tinubu’s “Agenda for Renewing Hope” which prioritizes food security in the country.

“We have launched the ‘Back to Farm’ project which aims to cultivate 3,000 hectares of land in the three senatorial districts of Edo State. This endeavour underscores our government’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency and improving agricultural productivity across the state.

This donation from the ADF is therefore timely as it will complement our efforts to reduce hunger in the country. In this spirit, I take this opportunity to call on Nigerians of goodwill to emulate the generosity of ArikoDangote as fighting poverty and hunger is a collective responsibility and through such partnerships, together we will build a more resilient, secure and prosperous future for all.”

“As we begin the distribution of rice to the needy across the state, I assure you that the entire process will be transparent, fair and conducted with the utmost integrity. We will ensure that these supplies reach the hands of those in need and the communities where they are needed,” he added.

An official of ArikoDangote Foundation conveyed the goodwill message of Alhaji Dangote to the governor, who told Opeoluwa Olajide that the business tycoon has been trying to help economically disadvantaged Nigerians and through his ArikoDangote Foundation Foundation (ADF) has launched a National Food Intervention Programme to alleviate hunger through food security.

“This year, Africa’s leading philanthropist, through ADF, has pledged N16 billion to provide 1,000,000 bags (10 kg) of locally produced rice to one million Nigerians in the 774 local governments of the federation.
