Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has defined the explanation for his absence on the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which befell on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Obi, whose absence drew criticism from some quarters given his political prominence and position as a former governor of Anambra State, clarified the scenario throughout an interview with Come up TV on Wednesday.

He spoke from Daura, the place he paid a condolence go to to the household of the late president.

“It was tough to come back yesterday as a result of there was no flight,” Obi said.

“Even when there was a flight, you couldn’t land in Katsina Airport. It was all closed as a result of excessive variety of dignitaries.”

He dismissed insinuations of political motives behind his absence and burdened that the mourning interval was not restricted to the burial day alone.

“Mourning continues till tomorrow. So, whoever comes right this moment or tomorrow remains to be inside the correct time to pay their respects,” he added.

Obi’s go to to Daura on Wednesday got here amid ongoing tributes to the previous president, whose demise in a London hospital on July 13, 2025, prompted condolences from throughout Nigeria’s political spectrum.
