Former Senate Majority Leader Accuses Oyegun of Holding Closed-Door Meeting of Edo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) (

A crisis is brewing within the Edo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) as several party officials, including former Senate Majority Leader Roland Ovi, were barred from attending a meeting held at the home of party official John Audigi-Oyegun on Monday.

* Also barred from the meeting were Sonny Agbor, one of the party’s founders and funders in the state, Douglas Iek, national president of the Independent Petroleum Traders Association of Nigeria (IPMANA), and many others.

* According to PidomNigeria, Audigi-Oyegun arranged the meeting to be held at his home in the government district.

When members arrived, their names were not on the guest list.

The disgruntled members then blocked the entrance to Audigi-Oyegun’s residence until police, allegedly dispatched by the state command, arrived and spoke with the members. They then left the residence.

In an interview, Ovi called on the ADC national leadership to restrain Audigi-Oyegun.

* He said: “We are founding members of the ADC. We were scheduled to meet today. Chief John Oyegun has never contributed anything to the party in this state, yet he invited non-party members to the meeting and excluded quorum members.

In fact, the Senate meeting should have been held four or five times, but he repeatedly postponed it. While we are speaking, we are traveling throughout the state, especially in southern Edo, trying to recruit members for the party. Ask him how many people he has recruited for the party.”

“We have informed the national party leadership that John Oyegun’s behavior has become intolerable. He acted this way when he was the national president of the All Progressive Congress (APC), so we did not hesitate to remove him from office. Enough! He cannot show such disrespect to those who contribute to the party.”

* When asked about this, Audigi-Oyegun said he was still attending party leadership meetings and would comment later.
