The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has resigned from the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Minister, a former representative of Shanga, Yauri, and Ngaski Federal Constituency, confirmed this to Vanguard News.

Sununu told a Vanguard Newspaper Correspondent that he stepped down in line with the country’s rules for political office seekers.

When asked via text message whether he had resigned, he replied in the affirmative.

He is reportedly planning to contest for the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.

He previously served as Minister of State for Education before moving to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the same capacity.
