The media aide to the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Bolaji Tunji, has confirmed that despite the presidential deadline approaching, his principal is still interested in making his governorship ambition known.

Reacting to enquiries from The Nation, Tunji said that Adelabu will do what is necessary in due time.

Bolaji Tunji said on Monday that his principal has never hesitated in making his governorship ambition known and will do what is necessary in time.

He assured that the Minister is still interested in pursuing his governorship dream of Oyo State and will not disregard the deadline.

The aide maintained that Adelabu will do the needful before the close of the deadline to show his commitment to pursuing his governorship ambition.

He said, “As it stands, only a former deputy governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan, has resigned his position as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, to pursue his governorship ambition in the 2027 elections.”

He cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with aspirations for the 2027 general elections to step down from office on or before March 31, 2026, as the reason for his resignation.

Aside from Adelabu, other notable politicians from Oyo State expected to resign include Adebayo Shittu, a former Minister of Communications, who is also aspiring for the governorship seat.

Shittu is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Ebonyi State.
