El-Rufai’s Mother Laid To Rest Amid Tears

The mother of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, Hajiya Umma, has been laid to rest in Abuja.

Naija News recalls that the matriarch of the El-Rufai family died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving medical treatment.

She was buried on Sunday at Gudu Cemetery following funeral prayers conducted in line with Islamic rites.

Photos which emerged online captured the heartbreaking moment El-Rufai’s mother was laid to rest, with the former Governor seen surrounded by African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftains and other top politicians.

Top government officials and dignitaries, including former and serving governors, as well as opposition figures, attended the funeral prayer.

Meanwhile, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, also attended the funeral prayer for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

Atiku disclosed this in a statement on his social media handles on Sunday.

He wrote: “Today, I joined family, friends and associates of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and the extended El-Rufai family at the Janazah (funeral prayer) of the matriarch of the family, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

“May God continue to comfort the family and all who mourn her. And may Allah grant her Aljannah Firdaus. Amin. -AA”

Other dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers include: National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Governor Abdullahi Bago of Niger State, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, Business mogul Aliko Dangote, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Minister Isa Patanmi, and many others.
