Gombe 2027: Transportation minister, Said Alkali, resigns

Said Alkali, Minister of Transportation, has resigned from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Umar Jibril, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said the resignation followed a presidential directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective offices to step down by March 31.

“The minister is resigning to contest for the governorship in the upcoming elections. In his letter, he expressed deep appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, citing significant progress made in the transportation sector during his tenure,” the statement read.

“The President has accepted the resignation and thanked the Minister for his dedicated service to the nation.”

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Alkali as Minister of Transportation on August 16, 2023, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s transportation sector, including roads, rail, and logistics.
