Napoli consider disciplinary action after Lukaku missed training

Napoli confirmed the situation in an official statement, saying: “SSC Napoli announces that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call-up for the resumption of training. The Club reserves the right to decide whether to take appropriate disciplinary action, as well as whether to continue the player’s activity with the squad on a permanent basis.”

The 32-year-old striker has instead remained in Belgium, where he is undergoing treatment for a hip issue. His decision has reportedly angered club officials, particularly given h is limited involvement this season following a long-term hamstring injury.

Lukaku addressed the situation in a statement, explaining his medical condition and reasons for staying away. “This season has been very challenging for me, between the injury and the personal loss,” he said. “The truth is that in recent weeks I haven’t been feeling well physically… it turned out there was inflammation and fluid in the iliopsoas muscle.”

He added: “I chose to do the rehabilitation in Belgium so I can be ready when I’m called upon… I could never turn my back on Napoli, never.” Despite returning to action in January, Lukaku has yet to start a Serie A match this season, raising further concerns about his fitness and role within the squad.

With just one year remaining on his contract, uncertainty is growing over his future at Napoli, with a potential summer exit increasingly likely.
