Plateau adjusts LG election timetable, shifts celebration primaries

The Plateau State Unbiased Electoral Fee has accepted changes to the timetable and schedule of actions for the conduct of the 2026 Native Authorities Elections within the state, extending the interval for political events to conduct their primaries.

The electoral physique made the disclosure on Thursday in a press release signed by its Secretary, Pam Davou.

In line with Davou, the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026 necessitated the changes.

He mentioned below the revised schedule, political events will now conduct their primaries from Saturday, March 7 to Tuesday, April 7, 2026, changing the sooner time limit of March 12, 2026.

He added that the gathering of nomination types by political events will likely be from April 8, to April 10, 2026, whereas the submission of nomination types to the fee is scheduled for April 13 ,to April 17, 2026.

In line with the revised timetable, the listing of certified candidates will likely be revealed on Could 20, 2026, whereas appeals by aggrieved aspirants will likely be obtained on Could 21 and heard on Could 22, 2026.

The assertion added: “The publication of non-public particulars of candidates will maintain on April 20, 2026, adopted by the screening of Chairmanship candidates and their operating mates from April 22, to April 25, 2026, and the screening of Councillorship candidates from April 26 to April 30, 2026.

“The ultimate listing of nominated candidates will likely be revealed on June 8, 2026, whereas political campaigns will formally begin on June 9, 2026.

“Different key actions within the timetable stay unchanged, together with the publication of the official register of voters on July 21, 2026, the submission of names of polling brokers by political events on August 12, 2026, and the publication of the Discover of Ballot on August 17, 2026.

“Political campaigns will finish at midnight on Monday, September 7, 2026, forward of the elections scheduled to carry within the seventeen (17) Native Authorities Areas of Plateau State on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 between 8am and 3pm.”
