Plateau tightens security after Jos killings, enforces Okada ban

JOS: Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has ordered strict enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos metropolis as part of urgent measures to prevent further attacks.

The directive followed Sunday’s deadly assault on Angwan-Rukuba community, where gunmen killed 28 persons, including women, children and students, and left several others injured.

In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, the governor declared that his administration would not succumb to intimidation, reaffirming its resolve to protect lives and property across the state.

Mutfwang said government had convened a State Security Council meeting to strengthen the security architecture and make it more proactive in addressing emerging threats. He directed security agencies to enforce the existing ban on commercial motorcycles within the Jos Greater Master Plan, adding that the Commissioner of Police would issue detailed guidelines.

Describing the incident as tragic, the governor commiserated with bereaved families and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that every effort was being made to apprehend the perpetrators.

He also commended community leaders and residents of Angwan-Rukuba for their restraint in the face of provocation, noting that their conduct helped to prevent further escalation.

Mutfwang called on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, stressing that security remained a collective responsibility.
