Shettima visits El-rufai, offers condolences over mother’s death

Kashim Shettima, vice president on Monday paid a condolence visit to Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna state governor at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother.

The visit was disclosed in a statement shared by Stanley Nkwocha, the vice president’s media aide on his X handle.

During the visit, Shettima described the deceased as a woman of great virtue and a pillar of strength for her family.

He offered prayers for the repose of her soul and for the El-Rufai family to find the strength to navigate this difficult period of mourning.

According to the post,“Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived at the Abuja residence of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to personally offer his condolences following the passing of the former governor’s mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai. Hajiya Umma passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday after a brief illness at an advanced age.

“During the visit, VP Shettima described the deceased as a woman of great virtue and a pillar of strength for her family. He offered prayers for the repose of her soul and for the El-Rufai family to find the strength to navigate this difficult period of mourning.”

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away last Friday in Cairo after an illness, was laid to rest on Sunday after funeral prayers were held.

Her death was earlier announced by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, who expressed gratitude for her life and called for prayers.

Meanwhile, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had granted El-Rufai temporary bail to enable him attend his mother’s funeral rites.
