West Asia War: Kuwait's Shuwaikh Port hit by Iranian drone, emergency procedures activated

Kuwait’s main commercial harbour, Shuwaikh Port, was struck by a drone early on Friday, March 27, causing infrastructure damage but leaving no casualties.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) said the port was targeted at dawn by hostile drones.

“Preliminary reports indicate that material damage occurred, but no human casualties were recorded,” a rough English translation of the statement read.
“Emergency procedures applicable in such situations have been activated in coordination with the relevant authorities,” it added.

According to the KPA, the strike caused limited structural damage within the port area, and response protocols were immediately implemented to secure the site and assess the impact.

Shuwaikh Port, located in an industrial district close to Kuwait City, serves as Kuwait’s primary maritime trade hub. The port handles a significant share of the country’s commercial shipping, cargo storage and distribution activities.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions across the Gulf region. Iran has been conducting retaliatory drone and missile strikes following a joint US-Israeli offensive launched on February 28.

Several countries in the region have reported threats or attacks on strategic infrastructure linked to the ongoing conflict, raising concerns over the safety of shipping routes, aviation operations and regional trade flows.
