What Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif spoke about on hour-long call

Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif held an extensive phone conversation lasting over an hour to discuss ongoing hostilities and explore pathways toward peace.

The high-level exchange comes as diplomatic efforts intensify across the region to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

In a post shared on X following the call, Sharif strongly condemned the Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, including attacks on civilian infrastructure.
“Held a detailed telephone conversation with my brother, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, earlier today, lasting over one hour. I reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the continued Israeli attacks on Iran, including recent strikes on civilian infrastructure, and conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with the brave people of Iran,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister conveyed condolences over the loss of lives and wished a speedy recovery for those injured and displaced. “Expressed, once again, my condolences on the tragic loss of precious lives and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and displaced. Also thanked him for his appreciation of Pakistan’s sincere efforts to advance peace and facilitate dialogue in the region,” he added.

Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach, noting that Islamabad is actively engaging with the United States as well as Gulf and other Islamic nations to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation.

During the conversation, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s position that it does not initiate conflicts but would respond strongly if its infrastructure or economic centres are targeted. He also called on regional countries not to allow their territories to be used for launching attacks.

We have said many times that Iran doesn’t carry out preemptive attacks, but we will retaliate strongly if our infrastructure or economic centers are targeted.

The Iranian president, as reported by Reuters, appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and stressed the importance of building trust to facilitate talks and mediation on the conflict in the Middle East.

In a parallel development, Pakistan has announced that it will host key diplomatic talks involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt in Islamabad from March 29 to 30.

“At the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister/foreign minister, senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, HH Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud; the foreign minister of Turkey, HE Hakan Fidan; and the foreign minister of Egypt, HE Dr Badr Abdelatty, will visit Islamabad from 29–30 March 2026,” as per a release posted by Pakistan’s deputy PM and foreign minister Ishaq Dar.

The visiting dignitaries are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sharif during the two-day visit. “During the visit, the foreign ministers will hold in-depth discussions on a range of issues, including efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. The visiting dignitaries will also call on the Prime Minister,” it added.
