154 students bag first class honors in Jigawa varsity

No fewer than 154 students of the 4,109 students who graduated from Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, SLUK, Jigawa, bagged first class honours.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim-Yakasai, disclosed this on Thursday in Kafin Hausa, while briefing newsmen on the university’s second combined convocation ceremony, scheduled to hold on Saturday.

Ibrahim-Yakasai said the university has recorded notable progress in expanding its academic programmes, including the introduction of postgraduate studies and restructuring of School of Preliminary Studies (SPS) to School of Preliminary and Continuing Education (SPACE).

He explained that preparations on for the takeoff of a College of Medicine in the university.

“It is my pleasure to brief you on the occasion of the second combined convocation of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa.

“This event marks another significant milestone in the growth and development of our university as we celebrate academic excellence and formally present our graduates to the society.

“At this convocation, the university is graduating a total of 4,109 students across six academic seasons,” he said.

Giving a breakdown of the degree classifications is, the vice chancellor said that 154 students graduated with first class honors, while 1,326 graduated with second class upper division.

He added that 1,954 graduated with second class lower division, while 649 graduated with third class and 26 with pass degrees.

Ibrahim-Yakasai added that the university has also witnessed a remarkable development, including construction of academic facilities, students’ hostels, a modern library, road networks and specialised research centers.

According to him, the university is also advancing Information and Communication Technology and digital transformation, alongside the adoption of solar energy solution to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

“The university remains committed to staff and students welfare through initiatives such as subsidised transportation, accommodation, internet access and capacity building programmes, with strong support from the state government and NELFUND.

“These achievements have been made possible through the invaluable support of Jigawa government and the relevant federal agencies,” Ibrahim-Yakasai said.

He, however, appealed to the state government to engage more staff and for accommodation in order to sustain quality teaching, research and service delivery.

“As our student population continues to grow, we appeal for additional staffing and accommodation support from Jigawa State Government to sustain quality teaching, research and service delivery,” the VC added.
