The management of Wisdom Gate International School in Rivers State has confirmed the d3ath of a 2-year-old child in their care.

.....

It was gathered that the child d!ed on March 17, 2026 after a poorly mounted bookshelf collapsed on her while she was asleep.

In a statement released by the management on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the school expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the grieving family.

The school described the loss as heartbreaking and acknowledged the pain being experienced by the child’s loved ones.

According to the statement, the child was attended to immediately after the incident and was taken for urgent medical care.

The school also confirmed that the matter was promptly reported to relevant authorities and that it is fully cooperating with them to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

“Out of respect for the family and the ongoing process, we will refrain from further public commentary. However, we remain open to lawful and constructive engagement,” the statement added.

However, allegations of negligence and attempted cover-up have trailed the tragic d3ath of the child.

According to a social media commentator known as Certified Courtist, the toddler’s parents received a call from the school at about 3pm on that fateful day, informing them that their child was d3ad.

“The school called, informing them that the child is dead. They tried to inquire what happened,” the commentator said.

“The school first lied and said that books fell on the child and k!lled her. The story didn’t just add up. How can books fall on a child and k!ll the child?”

Subsequent findings reportedly revealed that a poorly mounted bookshelf had collapsed while the child was sleeping.

The shelf, which had allegedly not been properly secured to the wall, fell directly on the toddler who had been laid beneath it on a mat.

“The bookshelf fell on the child, broke her skull, and k!lled her instantly,” the commentator said, adding that the child bled severely before dying.

It was further alleged that the school failed to immediately notify the parents.

Instead, the child was reportedly rushed to multiple hospitals, where she was confirmed d3ad, before the family was eventually informed.

“When the parents got there, they saw their d3ad child… it’s really a sad situation,” he added.

The family’s shock soon turned into suspicion after they visited the school premises.

According to the account, crucial evidence appeared to have been tampered with.

“They discovered that the school had cleaned the mats where the blood was… even removed the bookshelf from the classroom and hid it in another classroom,” the narrator alleged.

The situation escalated after the case was reported to the police at Umukoro Police Station.

The commentator claimed that a magistrate intervened and facilitated the release of some school staff who had been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The magistrate went to the police station and made sure that they were released,” he alleged.

Dissatisfied with the handling of the case, the family reportedly transferred the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where an autopsy was conducted.

Preliminary findings allegedly confirmed that the child d!ed from the impact of the falling shelf.

“Police have not taken any step to arrest anybody… they are doing everything possible to intimidate this family,” the commentator said.

He further alleged that authorities have refused to release the autopsy report to the family, citing bureaucratic delays, while repeated promises to take legal action have not been fulfilled.

He also questioned the level of supervision at the school, claiming that no teachers were present in the classroom when the incident occurred.

“Where were the teachers? It was discovered that they were not even in the class at the time,” he said.

The commentator accused the school of operating unsafe facilities and attempting to evade responsibility through influence and intimidation.

“We have heard stories that the owners are well connected and that this matter will not go far,” he added.
