2027: Ivwurie joins Ethiope Federal Constituency seat race under ADC

Dr. Aghogho Emmanuel Ivwurie, a chieftain of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Ethiope Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.

Ivwurie, an indigene of Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, made this known during an exclusive chat on Saturday, where he outlined his vision for effective representation and grassroots-driven development.

He said his decision to join the race was inspired by his desire to contribute to national development through quality lawmaking and people-oriented policies.

According to him, his understanding that societies and nations grow through effective laws and sound governance motivated him over the years to work towards becoming part of the legislative process.

He noted that the worsening poverty, insecurity, and lack of development across the country, particularly the local challenges facing his people in Ethiope Federal Constituency, further strengthened his resolve to seek elective office.

The House of Representatives hopeful explained that his over two decades of participation in grassroots politics gave him a broad understanding of the weaknesses in Nigeria’s political system, while his professional experience in banking and entrepreneurship exposed him to the country’s socio-economic and political gaps.

Before venturing into private business, Ivwurie worked with several financial institutions, including Allstates Trust Bank, Diamond Bank, and Intercontinental Bank, before their eventual mergers. He also served during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Kano.

He added that his academic background, which includes an MBA, M.Sc, and Ph.D from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as well as training at the School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG), has equipped him with the knowledge required for effective representation.

Ivwurie stated that he understands the responsibilities of a legislator, which include lawmaking, oversight functions, and empowerment of constituents, stressing that the role differs significantly from that of an executive office holder like a governor.

On constituency engagement, he promised to establish a constituency office where aides would work with what he described as “Grassroot Marshals” to identify the needs of the people and provide regular feedback through quarterly town hall meetings.

He also outlined plans to collaborate with colleagues and industry leaders to drive empowerment programmes for constituents, including job opportunities for youths, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, attracting investments, technical and digital skills acquisition, grants for women in trade, and support for youth participation in sports.

Describing himself as a person of faith, a corporate personality, and a grassroots politician, Ivwurie said he possesses the capacity to manage challenges and remain accessible to the people.

He added that his long-standing presence in grassroots politics, regular ward meeting participation, and ownership of a country home in his ward reflect his deep connection with the people.

Ivwurie, who has been managing private businesses in Apapa and Victoria Island, Lagos since 2006, also serves on the boards of two companies, a religious group, and an alma mater trustee body.

Beyond politics and business, he is also a sports enthusiast and has participated in the 42.9-kilometre Access Bank Lagos City Marathon for 11 consecutive years, completing the 2026 edition as part of his personal commitment to discipline and endurance.
