2027: Kwara APC supporters endorse Tinubu for second term, back Danladi for governor

ILORIN — Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term while throwing their weight behind the governorship aspiration of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi.

The endorsement was made during a rally held in Bode-Saadu, where hundreds of party supporters gathered at the council secretariat and other strategic locations to affirm their political position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairperson of Moro Local Government Area, Hajiya Mariam Abdulwasiu Omotayo, said the rally was organised to reflect the collective will of party members in the area.

“We have gathered here today to endorse the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and also support the governorship aspiration of the Speaker, Salihu Yakubu Danladi,” she said, adding that stakeholders were also advocating for the zoning of the House of Representatives ticket to Moro under the APC.

Speaking on behalf of the chairperson, a former INEC commissioner in Kwara State, Ishola Ajibade, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his leadership and developmental strides across the state.

He cited improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and human capital development, noting that sustaining such progress requires a successor who shares the governor’s vision.

Ajibade said party members in Moro had carefully considered their options and resolved to support Danladi as their preferred governorship aspirant, while also backing calls for power shift to Kwara North, which has not produced a governor since 1999.

He described Danladi as an experienced leader who has presided over a stable legislature and fostered collaboration among arms of government.

Also speaking, former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Okedare, justified the endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing what he described as improved federal support to states.

He also noted that while the constitution limits the incumbent governor to two terms, stakeholders have identified Danladi as a suitable successor to continue the administration’s policies.

Okedare further appealed for greater representation for Kwara North at the federal level, particularly in the House of Representatives.

In his remarks, former lawmaker Hon. Babatunde Abdulkareem Paku said the region was determined to produce the next governor of the state, stressing the need for continuity.

“We want Danladi to sustain the legacy of the current administration. He is capable and prepared for the task,” he said.

Adding a historical perspective, the Council Secretary of Moro LGA, Nura Muhammed, argued that fairness and equity support the demand for power shift to Kwara North.

He cited voting patterns in previous elections as evidence of the region’s loyalty to the APC, noting that the area delivered significant electoral support to the party in both 2019 and 2023.

The rally concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their loyalty to the APC at both state and national levels, expressing confidence that their endorsements would shape the political direction of Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
