2027: Maituta urged to join Zamfara governorship race

A Zamfara politician, Sanusi Maituta, has been urged to declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The renewed interest in Mr Maituta’s political future comes as the state witnesses increased defections and strategic repositioning among key actors ahead of the next election cycle.

Mr Maituta, who contested the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023, is said to be gaining traction among youth groups and grassroots mobilisers, according to sources familiar with ongoing consultations.

Several associates and political allies have also publicly and privately urged him to formally join the race, describing him as a viable option to address the state’s challenges.

Observers say his possible return to active politics could reshape the political dynamics of the state.

Beyond politics, Mr Maituta is known for his business investments across multiple sectors, as well as philanthropic activities that have reportedly earned him support at the grassroots level.

Political analysts say his eventual decision, including the platform he may adopt and alliances he could build, will be crucial in determining the trajectory of the 2027 governorship contest in Zamfara State.
