Abiodun gifts Ogun monarchs 40 SUVs, tasks them on security

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday rolled out 40 brand-new Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for traditional rulers in the state, in recognition of their support for his administration and to enhance their operational efficiency.

The vehicles were presented at the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, Abiodun described traditional rulers as custodians of culture and vital partners in governance, noting that their roles as intermediaries between government and grassroots communities remain indispensable.

According to him, the gesture was not only to improve their comfort, but also to strengthen their capacity to maintain peace and stability across their domains.

“We recognise the critical role our Kabiyesis play in sustaining the peaceful atmosphere that has enabled our ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda to flourish,” the governor said. “These vehicles are meant to support your mobility and effectiveness in ensuring continued harmony in your communities.”

Abiodun commended the monarchs for their cooperation, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.

The governor, however, charged the traditional rulers to foster an investor-friendly environment, warning that acts of hostility toward investors could jeopardise the state’s economic aspirations.

He expressed concern over reports of uncooperative attitudes by some communities, particularly in Yewa South, Ipokia and Ijebu North, describing such conduct as detrimental to development.

“We have received disturbing reports about the conduct of some communities during recent investor engagements. This is unacceptable,” he said.

“These investors are bringing in significant capital that will transform our economy, create jobs for our people and improve livelihoods. They must be welcomed and supported.”

Abiodun urged the monarchs to take greater responsibility in ensuring peace and cooperation in their domains.

“Kabiyesis, I urge you to work closely with your people to create an enabling environment for investors. Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hostility and distrust. We must position Ogun State as a preferred investment destination,” he added.

Reiterating his administration’s resolve to protect investments, the governor warned that actions capable of discouraging investors would not be tolerated.

On security, Abiodun called for heightened vigilance among residents and traditional institutions in view of rising insecurity in parts of the country, urging prompt reporting of suspicious activities.

While acknowledging efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle security challenges nationwide, he stressed the need for sustained local collaboration to preserve the state’s relative peace.

The governor also cautioned against indiscriminate land allocation and involvement in land disputes, describing land as a critical economic asset.

“Our land is our oil. It must not be allocated carelessly. We must ensure that land matters are handled transparently and responsibly to attract and retain genuine investors,” he said.

He further warned landlords against harbouring criminal elements, noting that any property found to be used for unlawful activities would be demolished.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat, said the meeting—the first in 2026—was convened to deliberate on key issues of security and development, while deepening synergy between government and traditional institutions.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, lauded the governor’s developmental strides and reaffirmed the council’s support for policies aimed at economic growth and stability in the state.
