Adamu targets economic boom for Nigerian through boxing

Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, Group CEO of Balmoral and promoter of one of Africa’s biggest boxing event, Chaos in the Ring, has outlined an ambitious vision to transform Nigeria’s boxing industry into a major economic driver.

With a flagship event scheduled for May 1, 2026, Adamu revealed that Chaos in the Ring concept extends far beyond the squared ropes.

“We are building towards becoming one of Africa’s leading experiential platforms, with ambitions that go well beyond boxing. The goal is to create a large-scale business capable of eventually accessing the public markets,” he said.

“In the coming years, we aim to position it as the first experiential infrastructure platform to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, enabling expansion across multiple African markets.”

Adamu described the initiative as part of a broader cultural economy, designed to connect African talent with global visibility and monetisation opportunities.

“What we are building is part of the cultural economy. We are creating systems and consistent platforms capable of connecting talent with visibility and monetisation on a global level,” he added.

He pointed to DAZN’s global reach and the event’s expanding international footprint as evidence that Lagos is steadily emerging as Africa’s boxing capital.

“Partnering with Amir Khan and DAZN will give the talents in Nigeria and across Africa the exposure they need,” Adamu said.

Central to the fight card is a WBO All-Africa cruiserweight title clash between Ezra Arenyeka and Godday Appah—framed as a “Peace Fight” aimed at easing tensions between the Ijaws and Itsekiris in the Niger Delta.

“We don’t want to fight with guns or weapons anymore. We want to settle the score in the ring,” Adamu said. Winner of the fight will be named a Peace Ambassador for the Niger Delta.

The event will also feature teenage sensation Raheem Animashaun (19-0, 12 KOs), the youngest West African Boxing Union super-lightweight champion in history, who is set to face Tanzanian veteran Emmanuel Amos.
