ADC announces date for inauguration of newly elected state executives

The African Democratic Congress has announced the date for the formal inauguration of its newly elected State Executives and state chairmen.

The party said the inauguration will hold on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be communicated by the National Working Committee.

PidomNigeria Online had reported that ADC on Saturday held state congresses in some states, including Osun and Anambra.

The development happened despite its deepening crisis, resulting from the derecognition of its leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the emergence of factional groups.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Sunday, congratulated the newly elected officials across the federation.

He said the elections were conducted in line with the provisions of the law and the party’s constitution, describing them as a reflection of its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the rule of law.

“These elections, carried out in line with the provisions of the law and the party’s constitution, reflect the ADC’s enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the rule of law. We commend all party members and stakeholders for exercising their democratic rights with maturity, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose.

“The party is pleased to announce that the formal inauguration of the newly elected State Executives is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be duly communicated by the National Working Committee,” the statement read.

Abdullahi urged the newly elected executives to remain committed to the party’s ideals and vision as they prepare to assume office.

“As you prepare to assume office, we urge all elected officials to remain steadfast in their dedication to the ideals and vision of the party. The task ahead requires unity, discipline, and a continued commitment to building a strong, credible alternative for the Nigerian people,” he added.

He expressed confidence that the new state leadership would strengthen the party’s structures and deepen its connection with citizens across the country.

Recall that INEC had on April 1 derecognised the David Mark-led National Working Committee following a Court of Appeal judgment, directing all factions to maintain the status quo ante bellum.

INEC stated it would not monitor or attend any congresses or conventions until a related suit is determined by the Federal High Court.

The move triggered the suspension of congresses and related activities in at least six states, yet the ADC proceeded with the state-level polls as scheduled.
