ADC Crisis Deepens As Court Stops Congresses In Adamawa

A High Court sitting in Adamawa State has ordered the suspension of the planned congresses of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

The congresses, which were to be conducted at the ward, local government, and state levels, have now been put on hold following the court’s directive.

The order was issued by Ahmed Isah of High Court No. 6, Yola, pending the determination of a substantive suit before the court.

The judge also fixed the hearing of the case for April 15.

The case was instituted by the state chairman of the party, Yohanna Shehu, who is protesting his alleged exclusion from the planning process.

Shehu challenged the legitimacy of the arrangements, describing them as contrary to democratic principles.

The congress planning had been coordinated by a state transition committee led by Sadiq Dasin, a move that has generated controversy within the party.

The committee’s role in organising the congresses has been strongly opposed by some stakeholders.

Reacting to the court’s decision, Shehu insisted that the process adopted by the committee lacked transparency and inclusiveness.

“How can you plan the congresses of a party without due consultation with the state chairman?” he queried.

Naija News reports that the court’s intervention effectively stalls the party’s internal electoral process in the state, pending the outcome of the case scheduled for hearing next Wednesday.
