ADC demands immediate resignation of INEC chairman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation of Prof. Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

It cited a loss of confidence in his leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was made by David Mark, the national chairman of the ADC during a world press conference held in Abuja on Thursday.

Addressing journalists, Mark urged President Bola Tinubu to remove the INEC chairman from office if he fails to step down voluntarily.

He insisted that the current leadership of the electoral body had demonstrated an inability to conduct credible elections.

Mark said, “We demand the immediate resignation or sack of the INEC chairman.

“We call on Professor Amupitan and all his national commissioners to resign immediately. We no longer have confidence in them. We are convinced that they are incapable of conducting any credible election.”

The statement comes following the delisting of the Mark-led ADC by the commission and amid preparations by parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, with electoral credibility expected to remain a major issue among stakeholders.
