ADC sets May 12 for inauguration of newly elected state executives

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced May 12, 2026, as the date for the formal inauguration of its newly elected state executives and chairmen.

The party stated that the inauguration may be held on the scheduled date or postponed to a later time as may be communicated by its National Working Committee.

The development comes after the ADC conducted state congresses in several states, including Osun State and Anambra State, despite an ongoing internal crisis.

The party has been embroiled in leadership disputes following the derecognition of its leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which also cited a Court of Appeal judgment in its decision.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, congratulated the newly elected officials, noting that the congresses were conducted in line with legal provisions and the party’s constitution.

“These elections, carried out in line with the provisions of the law and the party’s constitution, reflect the ADC’s enduring commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the rule of law. We commend all party members and stakeholders for exercising their democratic rights with maturity, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose,” he said.

“The party is pleased to announce that the formal inauguration of the newly elected State Executives is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be duly communicated by the National Working Committee.”

Abdullahi urged the incoming executives to remain committed to the party’s ideals, stressing the need for unity, discipline, and dedication to building a credible political alternative.

“As you prepare to assume office, we urge all elected officials to remain steadfast in their dedication to the ideals and vision of the party. The task ahead requires unity, discipline, and a continued commitment to building a strong, credible alternative for the Nigerian people,” he added.

INEC had earlier, on April 1, withdrawn recognition of the faction led by David Mark and directed all parties involved to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a suit before the Federal High Court.

Despite the directive, the ADC proceeded with its state congresses, even as the internal leadership crisis continues to deepen.
