AFCON 2027: Nigeria’s Super Eagles get final date as they eye fourth title

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will have another shot at continental glory after the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 (AFCON) dates were officially confirmed by Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF announced on Tuesday that the tournament will run from June 19 to July 18, 2027, marking a return to a summer schedule. The competition will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
This represents a shift from the previous edition in Morocco, which was staged between December 2025 and January 2026.
For Nigeria, the tournament presents another opportunity to chase a fourth AFCON title. The Super Eagles, now under the guidance of Eric Chelle, secured a third-place finish at the last edition and will be aiming to go even further this time.
Before that, however, they must successfully navigate the qualification series. Nigeria is expected to be among the seeded teams, with the qualifying draw scheduled to take place later this year.
Despite the confirmed dates, concerns remain over the readiness of the host nations. Preparations across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are reportedly behind schedule, raising questions about their ability to deliver a world-class tournament.
CAF, however, remains optimistic that the three countries will accelerate their preparations and meet the required standards ahead of the 2027 showpiece.
