APC chieftain declares Lagos assembly bid

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Remi Bello, has announced his intention to contest the Agege Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Sharafa Ganiyu, the declaration was made at an event held on Thursday at Shitta Street, Dopemu, Agege, where stakeholders across the constituency endorsed his ambition.

The statement noted that the gathering drew party leaders from Agege and Orile-Agege, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market men and women, artisans, as well as representatives of Hausa and Igbo communities.

Speaking at the event, a party stalwart, Fatai Jibola, hailed the growing support for Bello and commended the leadership of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

Jibola described Bello as a protégé of Obasa and expressed confidence in his capacity to represent the constituency.

“Truly, we give all the glory to God for today. We must also appreciate our leader, mentor and motivator, Hon. Obasa, for his leadership. Remi Bello is a good product and we believe he is capable of representing us effectively,” Jibola said.

Bello, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as a reflection of collective resolve rather than personal ambition.

“Today marks a defining moment for our constituency and for me personally. I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of love and trust. This is not just my ambition—it is a collective movement. With God’s guidance and your support, I will serve with diligence, integrity, and focus on the welfare of our people,” he said.

Also speaking, a youth representative, Sefiu Esan, said the support for Bello cut across various segments of the constituency.

Esan said community groups, including traditional institutions, traders, artisans and youth organisations, had aligned with Bello’s aspiration, citing his engagement with residents and responsiveness to local concerns.

The statement added that the event concluded with calls for unity among stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming election in the constituency.
