APC elects 18 chairmanship, 192 councillorship candidates for Edo LG poll

BENIN CITY: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has elected chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the forthcoming July 11, 2026 local government elections.

The candidates emerged through a direct primary election conducted on Friday, April 3, 2026, across the 18 local government areas and 192 wards of the state.

The exercise was supervised by an official from the party’s National Secretariat, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, who commended party members for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primaries.

Bello, who is also the Kogi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, described the exercise as largely rancour-free, noting that it reflected the maturity of party members across the state.

Speaking after the exercise, the Edo State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, said the emergence of the candidates marked a call to duty, urging them to work assiduously to secure victory for the party in all the local government areas.

He emphasised the need for unity and commitment among party members ahead of the polls.

At the end of the primaries, returning officers for each of the 18 local government areas announced the results and presented the successful candidates.

In Etsako West Local Government Area, Romeo Imoike emerged as the chairmanship candidate with 2,209 votes, while Eriamatoe Christopher secured the ticket for Ovia North-East Local Government Area with 3,410 votes.

Dame Vera Sadoh, who polled 2,164 votes, emerged as the candidate for Etsako Central Local Government Area, becoming the only female chairmanship candidate of the party in the state.

Other candidates include Ernest Oyaole Aitalegbe (Owan East), Sino Eric Osawaru (Ikpoba-Okha), Osaro Osa Eribo (Egor), Enahoro Aikpokpo (Owan West), Austin Imafidon (Uhunmwonde), and Sunday Akiotu Ekpeson (Etsako East).

Also elected were Gabriel Iduseri (Oredo), who recorded the highest votes with 5,933, Osarobo Anthony (Ovia South-West), Prince Abdullahi Momodu (Esan Central), Thompson Osagie (Orhionmwon), and Tega Amiegbebhor (Esan South-East).

Others are Prince Saturday Iyoha (Esan North-East), Azemegbe Endurance (Igueben), Robert Akande (Akoko-Edo), and Ebhodaghe Blessing (Esan West).

The party expressed optimism that it would secure victory in the forthcoming local government elections across the state.
