Bayo Adelabu Resigns As Minister Of Power

The Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has tendered his resignation from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
.....
Naija News reports that Adelabu addressed his letter of resignation, dated April 22, 2026, to President Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In the letter obtained by our correspondent, the Oyo-born politician stated that the resignation would take effect on 30th April 2026.
He confirmed that the decision to resign is based on the need to focus on his 2027 gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State, which he noted dates back to 2016.
He noted that his service as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and subsequent resignation from that role in 2018 were all in furtherance of this gubernatorial ambition.
Adelabu appreciated President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve Nigeria, and expressed his appreciation for the privilege and confidence reposed in him by the President to contribute to national development in advancing reforms in the power sector.
According to him, the resignation is intended to allow for a smooth handover of responsibilities and is in compliance with the amended Electoral Act 2026.

Meanwhile, Adelabu had apologized weeks ago to Nigerians over the nationwide power outages that citizens have been experiencing.
The Minister assured that measures are being implemented to address the situation and promised that there will be noticeable improvements in the electricity supply within the coming weeks.
He described the power outages as temporary, but acknowledged that they have caused hardship for the citizens.
Naija News reports that Adelabu tendered the apology during a press conference in Abuja, as public frustration continues to mount over erratic electricity supply amid rising temperatures.
The Minister acknowledged the impact of the outages on homes and businesses, particularly during the dry season when electricity demand for cooling has surged.
