Boko Haram Attack: Four Policemen, Hunter Killed In Borno

At least four police officers and a member of a local hunters’ group have been killed during separate attacks by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Nganzai and Mobbar Local Government Areas of Borno State.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incidents on Sunday, stating that the personnel died while repelling coordinated assaults on security formations and communities.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the first attack occurred on Saturday, April 4, at about 1:00 a.m., when armed terrorists attempted to overrun the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to him, police officers, supported by Police Mobile Force operatives and Crack Squad personnel on special duty, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
He said the security forces successfully repelled the assault on both Nganzai and nearby Damasak communities, restoring normalcy in the area.
However, the terrorists reportedly deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades and other sophisticated weapons, which caused damage to parts of the police facility.
“They deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, causing damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
“But regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” Daso said.
Hunter Killed In Separate Attack On IDP Camp
In a related development, the police spokesman said another attack occurred the same day at about 2:40 a.m. at the Malam Fatori Internally Displaced Persons camp in Damasak town, located in Mobbar LGA.
The terrorists reportedly targeted a Civilian Joint Task Force and hunters’ duty post at the entrance of the camp.

During the attack, a member of the hunters’ group, Atom Abua, 40, was killed. The assault also led to the destruction of property, including about 20 thatched houses.
Daso said combined teams of the Police, Military, Civilian Joint Task Force, and local hunters responded swiftly to the attacks.
He noted that their response helped repel the terrorists and prevented further destruction in the affected communities.
Following the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Naziru Abdulmajid, reportedly deployed additional personnel and operational assets to the affected areas.
According to the command, the deployment is aimed at strengthening security operations and preventing further attacks.
The commissioner also commended the officers who confronted the insurgents.
“He also extends his condolences to the families of the deceased personnel and assures that the Command is committed to tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” Daso said.
The police spokesman urged residents to remain calm and support security agencies with useful information.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to support security agencies with credible information,” he said.
He added that the command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Borno State despite ongoing security challenges.
