Governor Mai Mala Buni has congratulated Yakaka Bilkisu Bukar Maina on her promotion to the rank of Professor of Energy and Environmental Development, describing the achievement as a milestone for Yobe State and the North-East region.

Mrs Maina, an indigene of Yobe State, was elevated to the professorial cadre by the Senate of the University of Maiduguri, becoming the first female professor of Energy and Environmental Development in the North-East sub-region.

In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the governor commended Mrs Maina for her dedication to academic excellence and her contributions to research in energy, environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

He noted that her work has focused on providing practical solutions to energy and environmental challenges, particularly in vulnerable and conflict-affected communities.

Mrs Maina, who lectures at the University of Maiduguri, also serves as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where she supports programmes on natural resource management, clean energy and sustainable livelihoods.

Mr Buni described her elevation as a source of pride to Yobe State, urging her to remain committed to her profession and continue to justify the confidence reposed in her.

The governor also prayed for divine guidance and success in her new role, expressing optimism that she would continue to make meaningful contributions to national development and bring further honour to the state.
