Couple died in each other's arms after getting trapped in storm

A couple died in each other’s arms after their car was caught in a flash flood. Parents Mariano Robles, 28, and Solana Albornoz, 32, were travelling home after a wedding in Tafí Viejo, Argentina, when they were forced to pull over by heavy rain.

They messaged their babysitter to say they would wait for the rain to pass, but they weren’t heard from again. When the couple failed to arrive home to their waiting children, aged two and nine months, worried relatives and wedding guests called for help on social media.

Mr Robles’s brother reported their disappearance to the police before the white Nissan Versa the pair were travelling in was found flipped over in an irrigation canal.

Emergency workers recovered the lifeless bodies of Mr Robles and Ms Albornoz inside the car. They were found embracing one another, the Mirror reports.

The couple had left the wedding reception at about 1am on Easter Sunday.

A wall of water is said to have overturned their car, trapping the couple inside.

Distraught family and friends paid tribute to the husband and wife, who they said were dedicated to their children.

The couple’s babysitter told the news outlet Infobae they were very careful with their children and would never spend the night away from home.

Mr Robles was a civil servant at the Tucum Government Palace, and Ms Albornoz worked for the state-run savings bank, Caja Popular de Ahorros.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the deaths. A third person, a 12-year-old boy called Lisandro, was also confirmed dead during the storm.

He was reportedly electrocuted after touching a utility pole while playing football with pals in San Miguel de Tucum.
