Easter: AIG calls for unity, assures security in Lagos, Ogun

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, has urged residents of Lagos and Ogun States to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence as Christians celebrate Easter.

Jimoh made the call in a statement issued by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, on Saturday in Lagos.

He said this in felicitation with the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.

He described Easter as a major Christian festival marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolising victory over death, sin, and eternal life.

According to him, the season reflects the triumph of light over darkness and offers hope, renewal, and new beginnings to believers.

The AIG urged residents to imbibe the virtues of love, tolerance, and harmony, noting that peaceful coexistence was vital to societal growth and stability.

Jimoh also assured residents of adequate security arrangements across Lagos and Ogun States to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

He disclosed that commissioners of police in both states had been directed to intensify patrols, surveillance, and visibility policing in strategic locations, including worship centres, recreational facilities and major highways.

While wishing Christians a joyous Easter celebration, the AIG advised members of the public to remain law-abiding, stay vigilant, and comply with traffic regulations.

He also urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.

Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, assuring residents of a safe and secure festive period.
