Ex-elite US soldier arrested for âleaking classified secretsâ to journalist

Courtney Williams, a former elite soldier with Delta Force, has been arrested over allegations of transmitting classified defence information to a journalist.

The 40-year-old served in the US Army’s special operations unit between 2010 and 2015 and had signed a non-disclosure agreement covering sensitive material during and after her service. If found guilty, she could face a prison sentence.
Kash Patel confirmed the arrest, warning that authorities are actively pursuing leak investigations. “Let this serve as a message to any would-be leakers: we’re working these cases, and we’re making arrests. This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way,” he said.
Prosecutors allege Williams shared information with journalist Seth Harp, who was writing a book about Fort Bragg, the home of Delta Force. Phone records reportedly show repeated contact between the two between 2022 and 2026.
Court documents indicate Williams had access to highly sensitive materials during her service, including documents linked to undercover operations. Williams has denied any wrongdoing. Messages cited in the case suggest she believed the information she shared was for general understanding, expressing concern about the level of classified material being disclosed publicly.
Harp has defended her, describing her as a whistleblower who exposed issues including alleged harassment within the unit, and criticised the investigation as politically motivated. The case is expected to proceed as authorities continue their investigation into the alleged leak.
