President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the purchase of an emergency medical helicopter to improve response to health crises across Nigeria.

.....

Naija News reports that the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, made this known in a statement, revealing that talks are already ongoing with Airbus on setting up a national system that will connect ground and air emergency services.

As part of the process, the minister recently met with officials of the company and also visited a government-supported air ambulance centre in Lyon, France, where he inspected one of their emergency care helicopters.

The planned helicopter service is expected to be part of a broader effort by the Federal Government to improve the country’s health system, especially in handling urgent medical cases.

The move is also tied to ongoing reforms and investments aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the nation.

The government is working on improving emergency services by upgrading the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Scheme.

This includes adding more ambulances for urban areas and creating better response systems for rural communities.

The introduction of helicopter-based emergency care is being considered as an additional step to make medical help reach people faster in critical situations.
