Former governor of Kano, Kabiru Gaya, defects from APC to ADC

A former governor of Kano State in the botched 3rd Republic, Kabiru Gaya, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

In a resignation letter dated April 5 and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State, Gaya said his decision followed “careful reflection and wide consultation.”

The former governor who represented Kano South Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, noted that leaving the APC was in the best interest of his constituents and aligned with his personal convictions.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he said.

The letter was formally acknowledged by the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam.

Announcing his defection to the ADC, the former lawmaker stated that he maintains cordial relationships with key political figures, including former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and Nasir Yusuf Gawuna.

Reflecting on his time in the APC, Gaya said he spent eight years in the party, during which he served as senator for Kano South.

“I have spent a good eight years in this party. I was Kano South senator, and people have seen the role we played,” he said.

He, however, expressed concern over the current state of the country, particularly insecurity.

“APC was founded on good principles, but it has now deviated. For eight years, APC was on track. Insecurity is now widespread. During Buhari’s tenure, it was largely confined to the North-East, but now it has spread across the country,” he added.
