Former US First Lady Jill Biden’s Secret Service agent reportedly shot himself in the butt

According to a report by journalist Susan Crabtree of RealClearPolitics, the agent may have shot himself in the buttocks, contradicting earlier reports that suggested the injury was to his leg. The incident allegedly occurred when the agent returned to his vehicle to retrieve his phone and used the flashlight attached to his service weapon to search for it.

A senior Secret Service official confirmed the shooting but did not verify all details of the report. “It’s accurate that the agent suffered an unintentional, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hip area. He was treated at an area hospital,” the official said.

However, the agency stated it could not confirm claims that the firearm was being used as a flashlight at the time of the incident. “It’s unclear why he took the gun out in the first place,” the official added. The Secret Service has also clarified that the injury was not to the leg, as initially reported.

The incident is now under investigation by the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and officials say no further details will be released while inquiries are ongoing. While the unusual nature of the accident has drawn attention, authorities emphasise that it remains a serious safety matter.
