FRSC records zero crashes on Abuja corridor, restricts 858 trucks

The Federal Road Safety Corps says it has recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja since the commencement of its enforcement exercise, Operation Safe Kugbo, on March 18, 2026.

The Corps also disclosed that 858 articulated vehicles and trucks have been restricted from operating along the corridor during peak hours as part of ongoing enforcement aimed at improving road safety and traffic flow.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer at FRSC Headquarters, Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps said the exercise has continued to record compliance gains under sustained monitoring and enforcement.

Ohaeri said the initiative is being driven by the leadership of the Corps Marshal and backed by provisions of existing traffic regulations.

“The operation is driven by the strategic leadership of the Corps Marshal and is firmly rooted in the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations, particularly Section 223, as well as the FCT Traffic Regulations,” he said.

He explained that the exercise aligns with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, which focuses on reducing road traffic crashes and improving road safety outcomes nationwide.

“The operation aligns with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, aimed at drastically reducing road traffic crashes and improving road safety outcomes nationwide,” Ohaeri stated.

At the operational level, the Corps said enforcement is being sustained through coordinated patrols and real-time traffic management led by the Unit Commander of RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka.

“CRC WF Luka continues to lead a dedicated team of operatives in enforcing compliance through targeted patrols, strategic positioning, and real-time traffic management during peak periods,” the statement noted.

The FRSC said the zero-crash record along the corridor reflects the effectiveness of the operation and reinforces the importance of restricting heavy-duty vehicles during peak traffic hours.

It added that the operation remains ongoing with intensified monitoring to sustain the gains already recorded, while urging motorists, fleet operators and truck drivers to comply fully with restriction orders.

“The Corps remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring safer roads across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond,” the statement added.
