Fubara reaffirms commitment to quality healthcare in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Rivers State, pledging sustained investment in policies and programmes that guarantee access to quality and affordable services for residents.

In a goodwill message to commemorate World Health Day on Tuesday, the governor said his government would continue to prioritise initiatives aimed at strengthening the health sector and enhancing the well-being of citizens.

Fubara urged residents to take responsibility for their health by adopting healthy lifestyles, maintaining proper hygiene, and guarding against preventable diseases.

He also stressed the importance of community participation in promoting health awareness and supporting grassroots health interventions.

“On this World Health Day, I extend warm greetings to all Rivers people. Our administration remains committed to improving healthcare in the state by prioritising initiatives that promote quality healthcare for all,” he said.

The governor highlighted achievements recorded since he assumed office, including the recruitment of over 2,000 health workers, the rehabilitation of several health facilities, and the establishment of a state health insurance scheme.

He added that his administration is working towards positioning Rivers State as a medical tourism hub with accessible and affordable healthcare services.

World Health Day, observed annually on April 7, draws global attention to critical health issues.

The 2026 theme, “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” underscores the role of scientific research, collaboration, and evidence-based solutions in addressing health challenges, while promoting the interconnected “One Health” approach linking human, animal, and environmental well-being.

The administration has also revived and expanded previously neglected health infrastructure, including zonal hospitals in Bori, Omoku, Ahoada, and Degema, while remodelling 153 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state to improve service delivery.

In addition, the government approved the promotion of over 400 staff of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and recruited 500 more personnel to strengthen manpower and efficiency in the health system.
