Gateway Air begins flights to Abuja, Kano, Calabar, Port Harcourt

The Ogun state government has announced that its state-backed airline, Gateway Air, will commence scheduled flight operations across major Nigerian cities from April 13, 2026.
The announcement was made in Abeokuta by Kayode Akinmade, the special adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on information and strategy.
According to him, the airline will operate routes linking Iperu to Abuja, as well as Abuja to several key destinations including Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Jos.
He added that additional routes will include the Iperu–Kano corridor, aimed at improving connectivity between northern and southern Nigeria.
Akinmade disclosed that the airline will operate on selected weekdays—Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays—to ensure consistent scheduling for passengers.
He said one-way economy fares will start from N100,000, positioning the service as a competitive option for domestic air travellers.
“The new airline will operate routes linking Iperu with Abuja, as well as connecting Abuja to major destinations including Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Jos,” he said.
The state government said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen transport infrastructure, improve regional connectivity, and stimulate economic activity through efficient air travel services.
Akinmade described the development as a significant step toward enhancing aviation services while improving passenger convenience and access across key routes.
He urged prospective travellers to make advance bookings and rely on official communication channels for updates on flight schedules and travel information.
Gateway Air is expected to boost mobility for business and leisure travellers while supporting economic integration across Nigeria’s major cities.
