Gov. Buni offers automatic employment to 156 nursing college graduates

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has offered automatic employment to the recently graduated students of the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu.

Mr Buni approved the employment in Damaturu on Tuesday at the graduation of nurses/midwives and the launch of a magazine, highlighting the achievements of the governor at the College.

The approval followed a request made by the college’s outgoing Provost, Hadiza Sabo.

Speaking at the occasion, the governor noted that no fewer than 3,500 healthcare workers were recruited by the state in recent years.

He said successive graduates of the college were among the major beneficiaries of the recruitment aimed at providing adequate, qualified and professional manpower to health facilities across the state.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Idi Gubana, noted that his administration deliberately and strategically invested in the health sector to provide functional, efficient and effective healthcare services at the doorsteps of the people.

“This government believes in the saying that the first line of wealth is a healthy citizenry.

“I am equally pleased to observe with a sense of satisfaction that our investments in this institution to improve our personnel needs in health facilities across the state, in line with the reforms initiated by our administration in the health sector, is yielding positive results.

“Therefore, our investments in this College have no doubt proven worthy, profitable and beneficial to the people of Yobe state,” Buni said.

He commended Sabo for leading a management team that set a high standard of academic excellence at the College, saying she made him proud.

The governor promised to look into other requests made by the college and address them accordingly.

Mr Buni advised the upcoming Provost of the college to build on the successes recorded by Sabo.

In her remarks, Sabo said the state government had recruited 1, 485 graduates produced by the college between 2022 and 2025.

“From the year 2019, the College has trained a total number of 2,100.

“These graduates received automatic employment upon completion of their studies based on the state’s policy of employing nurses and midwives produced by the college,” she said.

The provost thanked Buni for making development of the college a top priority of his administration.
